Beatabet Orchestra

The Beatabet Orchestra is a group of 12 musicians and performers from the UK, forming the live musical wing of Beatabet, an organisation that curates multimedia events across Europe and the known universe.

The Beatabet Orchestra was born in the mountains of southern France in the heady summer of 2006, where a group of musicians and artists came together in an isolated farmhouse to see how far they could push their creative brains. All independently successful artists in other media, the members merge to create a refreshingly captivating musical experience. Blending performance art, virtuosic musicianship and some cracking tunes, the band deliver a show that is at once visually entertaining, unpretentious and intellectually stimulating, moving both your emotions and your feet.

The material is all written during Beatabet's annual creative residency, based in the south of France (for more info see: http://beatabet.net/beatafarm.php ) and is the result of the groups ongoing investigations into collaborative work. Moving deftly between arthouse and funk, indie and electronica, the band effortlessly blur the boundaries of genre, producing an extraordinarily eclectic live set. With two albums under their belt, and a third to be released in the coming months, this prolific group of musicians is already at work on their fourth!

Due to the nature of the Beatabet collective every song the band perform is written by a different selection of its members, giving breadth and depth to their repertoire. The band come with in-house VJs, Metaluna, whose originality and sensibility raise the live show to another level, becoming an integral and unmissable part of the experience.

The idiosyncratic sound of the group manages to defy easy categorisation. The bulk of the music is composed in their secluded studio space in the mountains near Lyon then reinterpreted by the live band using whatever instrumentation they see fit. Synthesisers, laptops and samplers meld seamlessly with the more common acoustic drum kit, guitar and keyboard setup. That, coupled with the fact that the band have a number of diverse vocalists in their number, gives the Orchestra almost unlimited scope for musical output. The Beatabet Orchestra, in its relatively short tenure as a live entity, has played a number of successful, sell-out shows at numerous venues and events across the UK as well as appearances at various European festivals. Beatabet music has also had exposure on national and international radio and television.
